Surprise from Cavalli

Last January, attendees of Roberto Cavalli's F/W 06 show were given a litlle surprise. Okay, here's how the story goes. It was a typical Cavalli show, where the backdrop set was a reminiscent of the old Italian movie backdrop, with baroque-ish furnishing and decor. Then there were a number of fashion editors from around the world, mingling with the A-listers like Madonna, even Anggun was there to see the show. On the second row are (might be) the buyers, jetsetters and fans who would have spend thousands or millions just to namedrop in the name of Roberto Cavalli. The runway starts with male models in Shogun-style hairdo, just like the Japanese warlords exhibiting modernity through a myriad of textures and techniques. From the eyecatching laquer red shirt to the all-black ensemble, the Cavalli men strut their stuff to the amazement of the majority-ladies crowd. The show, which was supposed to be a menswear shoe that day, was interlaced by ready-to-wear womenswear.

The order of the day are flowy dresses in prints, kimono-inspired attires complete with the Obi sash, golden-striped pants and fur embellished collars. Accessories at Roberto Cavalli are simply to die for. Expect pointed heels in leopars prints, clutch bag and belt in cowhide with oriental-inspired buckle. Models walked in and out, strutting and parading the new stuff while the attendees happily chatting among themselves and the fashion editors began writing reviews on the runway show, taking style notes. Although many would have thought it just a Cavalli show and no more than that, the designer has something in store and will be unveil at the end of the show. Alas, the show has nearly come to an end and Cavalli is now ready to reveal a truth. Walking gracefully on the catwalk was no other than his most loyal client, Victoria Beckham or popularly known as Posh Spice from her Spice Girls heyday. Dressed in stunning floor length white georgette evening gown with fan-detailed décolletage and jewelled fan motif, Victoria awed the crowd and fashion editors gave out their nod, a blessing to the upcoming Fall/Winter collection, scheduled to hit stores in late August to early September.
