The Subtleness of Versace Men

How peculiar to see Versace runway is no longer dominated by hard washboard abs male models strutting too-sexy-for-the-streets clothes just like what late Gianni Versace would have at his fashion shows back in the eighties.

Now, Gianni have long ceased walking the earth and Donatella took over as the Creative Director and yes, everybody knows that this is no longer the eighties where her brother rules.

Instead of skimpy tight swimwears and muscular male models, Versace Men Spring/Summer 2007 runway show last year shows that a Versace man has become more smarter, brainier and fashion-wise. Donatella had changed her mind now.

"No more eighties," she said. "Now I prefer mind over muscles."

What's in store for men at Versace this season are deconstructed jacket, baggy, hip-slung trousers, tie at half-mast, and sandals. Made with the soft fabrics like silks, glazed linens, washed leathers and combined with the sun-bleached color scheme, the mood for a Versace man is more to laidback and relaxing rather than what it used to be in the past - vivacious and eccentric.

While most fashion houses are emphasizing on accessories for their Spring collection, Versace Men is less accessorized and the only accessories we can see on display were sandals and half-mast ties.

Although many onlookers might say that the Versace Men collection has been given a bit conservative look but no one can ever separate sexiness from the brand itself. Plunging V-neckline shirts baring muscular pecs, graphic muscle tees in tan exposing men's succulent yet broad atlethic arms and the sheer shirt, one of Versace's staple 10 years back is still prevalent in the collection. My personal picks from Versace Men S/S 07 collection are graphic board shorts in tan and black soft leather jacket.

The Versace Men Spring/Summer 2007 Ready-to-Wear Collection is available now at all Versace stores worldwide.
