Gucci F/W 2007-08 ... Love in the times of War

While more and more designers are channeling the yore days of the hop and glamor 80's and beyond, Gucci is making a difference. Instead of following the massive flow, Creative Director Frida Giannini drew her inspiration on the new collection from World War II model and photographer Lee Miller whom she considered as the pioneer of the talented, passionate, fashionable and strong women of the modern days.

Held at Piazza Oberdan on the 21st of February, the show showcases a total of 46 pieces from the latest and upcoming Fall/Winter 2007-08 collection and was attended by press representatives, buyers and select Gucci fans alike, audience were treated to the forties-style presentation with models coiffed in side-parted blond curls and glossy plum lips a la pinups of the pre-war days that used to graced US fighter aircrafts.

Pieces such as aviator-styled coats with gold buttons, full-length mink fur coat, trench coats with purse belts, puffed sleeved day dress and deep buttoned V-necks with belts, bags and gold fastening, and evening wear in sweetheart necklines, split-front held together with metallic gold rings or jewels across the décolletage and low backs were presented at the show.

Among all collections that Giannini had previously done for the Italian fashion house, I must say that the Fall/Winter 2007-08 collection is the most inspiring and breathtaking. Apart from being different, Giannini successfully recreate the feel of how it was during the World War II days through the silhouettes and styles used in the collection.

As usual, my favorite picks from the entire collection are the black split-front dress with puffed sleeves and metallic gold ring around the waist and the devilish red single-breasted trench coat with bow-detailed belt. For accessories, gee, there are too many to choose from but I will only pick two. The must die Gucci accessories that you should own this Fall/Winter season are black T-strap leather-and-suede boots to keep your legs warm and printed medium hobo with tassel detail.

The Fall/Winter 2007 Collection will be available in all Gucci stores starting this August while the current Spring/Summer 2007 Collection is available now.
