When people asked my opinion on resort collection, to tell you the truth, I don't know what the hell it's all about. All my life, there's always two collections ever crafted by designers - the Spring/Summer lot and the Fall (or Autumn in other parts of the world)/Winter lot.Only in the later years, designers have emerged with more choices for fashionistas to clothe themselves. These include the pre-fall, pre-spring, and now resort.
For next year's resort collection, Marc Jacobs re-evoked the days when Halston collections ruled the runway and the high-society closets, and the glorious days of New York's Studio 54, a legendary disco in Manhattan where it used to be the place for you to be seen.
As usual, the aura of the yesteryears (think of the 70's flower power, 60's mod and the silhouettes of the 50's) retains its reign over the incoming designs. Dresses, separates and accessories in bold geometric prints and bright hues will definitely cheer your holidays up.From printed sundresses, pantsuits, sheer top, and printed sheer caftans, you are spoilt of choices and wonder whether if you should stock the whole collection and fit them all into your suitcase before traveling to the desired destination.
My pick of the crop from Marc Jacobs' Resort collection 2008 are the classic black sheer blouson with bow tie detail on the neck and black above knee skirt with silver stripe detail, gray pantsuit in geometric prints and the multicolor geometric print caftan with silver square details. Top them all with the large hats in a variety of colors and you're off to go!
