Under the Volcano ... Diane Von Furstenberg S/S 08

If there is a perfect vacation song that I can pair to Diane Von Furstenberg's latest Spring/Summer 2008 collection, it would be "(Hooray, Hooray!) It's a Cheeky Holiday!" by the Romanian twins who were famous with their bum song, The Cheeky Girls.

Dubbing her show as "Under the Volcano", the latest ready-to-wear collection is inspired by her idea of escaping continuous workloads and hectic schedule day-to-day by traveling to an exotic island, playing and lingering around its lovely shores.

Guests at the New York Fashion Week show were treated to a lineup of luscious, magical and enchanting Tropical and traditionally bold prints with a spritz of ethnic chic, sheerness and sophistication. Think of Hawaiian sunset or when you and your significant other drifting away to some exotic yet unknown Tahitian island for a get together, staying in the middle of the vast blue Pacific ocean on chalet built on stilts.

Since every working girls deserved a vacation just to get away from their super-busy life, of course they too might need a vacation wardrobe as well to be tucked into their Louis Vuitton monogrammed trunks or Alexander McQueen for Samsonite luggages.

Frankly speaking, I am highly assured that Diane's move in creating a laidback collection sans heavy fabrics and tailoring should hit the high note among her fans in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and the rest of the Tropical world where her presence in local fashion circuit is strongly felt.

Pieces fans should look for next season's vacation are printed shift dresses in exotic tribal prints and oversize abstract butterfly prints, trademark wrapdresses in sheer linen and satin, babydoll dress with tropical print and extensive hemming, jade bubble top with matching short, and ethnic chic printed toga dress.

Hard-working girls, leave those bland power suits in cliché colors back home and embrace the holiday spirit at work with the bold graphic print ensemble of skirtsuit in black and white or short-sleeved safari jacket in white linen with full trousers for a change.

By night, shift the mood from hardwork to romantically laidback by fitting into the dramatic printed chiffon dress in bold monochrome leopard prints with short ruffled hemline and extensive train to dazzle your man.

Diane Von Furstenberg's Spring/Summer 2008 collection will be available next year at all DVF stores and selected multibrand boutiques worldwide.
