Never Can Say Goodbye ... Celine SS09

When Croatian designer Ivana Omazic debuted her first full scale collection for Celine, it did not impress me much.

Not because it was outstanding, but rather peculiar with all the fluorescent hues and tribal motifs splashed across the dresses and ensembles.

Gradually, as Ivana started to impress the fashion world with her ground-breaking offerings, she fortuitously ‘impressed’ me as well. Now in her second year with the French fashion house well-known for its selection of desirable bags, Ivana continues to wow the crowd with a
nother excellent performance on the runway stage. However, this will be Ivana’s last show for Celine because Phoebe Philo (ex-Chloé) will take over her throne soon.

Drawing her references back to where she began, Ivana incorporates the aesthetics of African tribal sense of style into her spring/summer collection for 2009.

Imbued with sexiness and tribal charm, dresses and ensemble in fluorescent colours and hand-painted daubs made the bulk of the collection’s first quarter.

Reviving chic correlations between art and fashion, Ivana soaked the gowns, coats, and skirts with either paint daubs or ombre-style tones in super contrasting shades of blues and yellows.

The tribal spirit of African wilderness roamed wild in the collection’s second quarter. Acting like a tribute to the Masai tribe is a provocative ensemble of high-waisted short skirt with side slits and a narrow bandeau worn across the breast.

The look is further accessorized with chunky bead necklaces around the neck, mirroring the authentic Masai female look. However, it is her innovative tailoring, constructing, and draping techniques applied to her collection that made the fashion sphere talking.

Veritably fluid and sophisticated, Ivana smoothly sculpts the mediocre fabrics into splendid set of clothes, just like how a famous sculptor sculpts a piece of rough marble into a magnificent artwork.

So liquid, they easily accentuate your feminine body shape without the need to put too much effort. Throw in a dazzling palette of iridescent spring and summer colours, plus intricate yet flamboyant details like classy bird plumes on strategic places and the outcome is definitely an artistic madness!

Ivana Omazic’s farewell spring/summer 2009 collection for Celine will be hitting Celine boutiques and selected multi-brand retailers early next year.
