Seen on Carrie Bradshaw ... Jee Vice shades

4 fashionistas wrote ...
Hear ye, hear ye Sex and the City fans … our beloved city girls (Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte) are back at the locations, filming the movie’s second sequel.

And despite autumn is heading to New York and the rest of Northern Hemisphere very soon, the girls have been spotted in their nonchalant summer pieces while shooting scenes.

As usual, all eyes are on the styles and there is lots of good stuff waiting to be paraded or sashayed by the girls in the new movie. And spotted in one of the scenes, where Sarah Jessica Parker as her on-screen alter ego Carrie Bradshaw sported bohemian chic tiered mini dress in purplish blue or cornflower blue with, well here’s the best part, a Jee Vice shades!

Okay, I know everyone is going ‘huh’ right now, since not every one knows what Jee Vice is. So, here’s something that I get from their website. Jee Vice is a sunglasses brand from France and has been decorating stylish women eyes since 2003. Hand designed in France and handmade in Italy, Jee Vice designs are inspired by influential designs of the 50’s and up to the 70’s.

“I want to give with Jee Vice a new way for women to feel their power through their look,” says founder and designer Philippe Vergez. “I wish to inspire the desire to love and live their passions, to fully commit themselves and elevate the perception of the contemporary woman.”

To date, lots of celebrities have pledged their allegiance to Jee Vice and they include singers Duffy, Christina Milian, the Pussycat Dolls; actors Anne Hathaway, Rosanna Arquette, Lindsay Lohan and Katherine Heigl, as well as world-renowned socialite/model/entrepreneur/whatever Paris Hilton. Even her pop majesty Madonna was spotted wearing one of Jee Vice creations called the Black Dyslexic in a few tabloids and magazines.

However, no matter how many exciting different styles they have in stores for you to covet, I am fully assured that many Sex and the City die-hard style emulators are going to stampede into optical stores and get Heated in orange, as seen on and worn by, who else if not the leading lady and Queen Bee of Sex and the City the Movie 2, Sarah Jessica Parker!

Made as part of the Revolutionary Correct collection, which is the premier line, Heated is really sexy and mirrors the pure style of today’s contemporary woman. What’s more, it is also a unisex shades and a perfect compliment to your laidback eternally summer style.

But if Heated is not your cup of style, then go for the oversized and vintage-inspired Red Hot (as shown above). Alluring and luxurious, the shades, which is available in multitude of hues aside of red, reminds me of classic beauty such as the legendary burlesque star Dita von Teese.

So, where to get them? Currently, I have no idea which optical store or optometry that carries this brand locally. But if you are planning to fly to Hong Kong for some retail therapy, you can get a pair or two of Jee Vice’s marvellous shades at O-O Shop and Puyi Optical chain all over the city, or buy them online at Jee Vice’s online store or decormyeyes.com. Heated retails at US$170.00, while Red Hot at US$250.00 each.

Nicky Hilton's In Love With KL!

2 fashionistas wrote ...
First, elder sister Paris Hilton has successfully did it by confiding Malaysian fashionistas into buying her bags. Now, it’s the younger sister Nicky’s turn to do the same – convincing Malaysians into buying her lifestyle. Ah yes, the invasion of the Hilton sisters!

Well, I didn’t know anything about it since I have not receive any official press release stating that the lesser-known Miss Hilton is going to invade our shores with her clothing brands, namely Chick, Nicholai and Nicky Hilton Beverly Hills. I only found it out today while strolling around Lot 10 and the store seemed to be bigger than her elder sister’s standalone store located at the second floor of Pavilion KL.

During my last visit to her website about two years ago, Nicky planned to open a lifestyle store in Dubai, but I have not heard about it ever since until today. She might have probably changed her mind and shift it to KL.

Anyway, the store, which is covered with hoarding featuring Nicky and her brand logos at this moment, spanned about three shop lots (formerly an Esprit store) and will most probably carry all of her three brands. Will it carry her Samantha Thavasa line as well? Err, that one I am not so sure.

Since Nicky Hilton name doesn’t seem to make a buzz here, in KL, where girls would rather choose her sister Paris as their fashion’s point of reference, I do believe that Nicky would do great in KL due to her classier fashion sense constantly reflected in her designs.

Though there is no word about when it’s going to start operating, I just received news that Hilton was in Tokyo recently to launch her Japan-exclusive NICKYHILTON brand. The brand is the result of her partnership with Sumitex International Ltd., a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corp.

What’s more, the brand is retailed through Shop Channel and to increase brand awareness, Hilton also made media appearances on national TV. So, will the real Miss Hilton made her appearance on our shores once her lifestyle store opens? Well, we’ll leave it to the Malaysian distributor to break the news.

Therefore, Nicky Hilton wannabes keep crossing your fingers and hope that Miss Hilton will be there to launch the store.

Shopaholics EXCLUSIVE ... Beguiled by VIVIER

0 fashionistas wrote ...
Looks like economic downturn has really taken its toll on the retail world and I am sure that at these trying times, many (or some) fashionistas are having trying hard to keep their platinum and gold cards away from the delicious sights of Fendi, Prada, Chanel, Louis Vuitton or yes, the unbeatable icon of the bag world, Hermès Birkin.

But what is your reactio
n if I say that you could own a Vivier at just $89 a pop? Oh boy, there goes the unbelieving clamour. Erm, before you ladies could make your quick dash to the super posh Roger Vivier boutiques and enquire, I have to say this – it’s not by the famous Roger Vivier (fashion hell will definitely break loose if the venerated brand do that) actually, but by a California-based bag designer by the name of Clare Vivier.

Boasting bags that personify timeless appeal and high in quality instead of relying on trends and hype which always come and go, Vivier has been receiving good press lately.

In fact, its infamous Remake fold-over bank clutch (fall/winter 2009 collection) has been, of late, lauded as the bag that every recessionistas must clutch on their way to the bank by Style.com!

Recently, I managed to track down Clare and had a long-distance brief conversation (via the good ol’ email that is) on her brand and what Vivier is all about.

How Vivier started and how long it has been in the market?

It started after making myself laptop bags to travel with with. Then a couple of years a
go I started making my friends bags, at the time there weren't any chic but not stuffy, cool but not kitschy work bags for women. I still think the market is very limited.

What are the traits that sets Vivier apart from other designer bags?

I try to design bags which are classic with an edge of cool. Which I interpret to mean not going over the top - knowing where to stop with design.

Any idea on the ideal personification of a Vivier girl or woman?

So many of my smart & chic friends are my ideal, it's definitely a cosmopolitan girl who travels and is smart but also really into fashion - in a intelligent way - not a label whore kinda way. And I love Parisian girls like Charlotte Gainsbourg, that's my ideal VIVIER girl.

Where do you get your ideas from?

My ideas are generated definitely by the world around me, but they're also dictated by function and often I'm inspired by materials I want to work with.

Many designers tend to do the production in Italy or even China. What about yours?

This is very important to me - my bags are made in LA and I want to keep it that way. I love the idea of not having a large carbon footprint for the environment. And they are made at a sewing shop which pays the employees a living wage and where I can go and work on designs, cuts, and details with them from start to finish - so there're no surprises when I get the end product.

What are the materials you love working with?

I love working with remnant leathers - which I can only get in small supply but that makes each piece individual and very special. I also love working with cotton canvases - I love the natural fiber and the industrial side of it. And, recently I've been making bags out of deadstock canvases from the 70s and 80s, mostly prints. I love that there's a history to it.

Do you believe in the term "it bag" and being a bag maker,do you think it is important to have any of your bags being christened as an "it bag"?

No, I don't partake in the "it bag" game. I've never owned one nor have I ever had the desire. I can certainly appreciate a YSL or Chloe bag for certain aspects of their designs and craftsmanship, or a Goyard - again fo
r the history [of the company], but I would never buy one because I would find it embarrassing to be that predictable. Now, whether or not I'd like to have a VIVIER bag an "It bag"? In the way that that translates into sales, by all means, yes! But it is not more important than knowing I'm making bags people I respect want to buy.

How often do people get confused between your brand and Roger Vivier's?

I have never had any confusion with Roger Vivier. My brand name is taken from my husband's family name and I liked the way it sounds. I think the two lines are very different in design and concept.

Have you seen any celebrities carrying your bags in the magazines or the tabloids lately?

Not in tabloids, but I do have celebrities carrying them.

Last but not least, what's next for Vivier? A world domination, perhaps?

Next for VIVIER is just the next step in having a successful company! It's a pretty new company in the sense that I've just had my first public showing (at the Taylor De Cordoba gallery - see my blog for an account of the evening: seevivier.blogspot.com) and I just got my first rep and showroom a few months ago (before that it was just me selling the bags on my website.) She's [my rep] opening new accounts, but we're being very selective as to what stores we're going into. They're selling really well in three of the chicest stores here in LA and I'd love to be in the equivalent of them all over the world!

The Vivier spring/summer 2009 collection is available now via Vivier online store as well as selected retailers in the US. Please take note that Vivier’s Remake fold-over clutch is limited edition and orders must be made according to colour groups displayed on the website.

Aesthetical Feet ... Omelle SS09 Collection

1 fashionistas wrote ...
When I first saw Omelle shoes, I immediately told myself that these shoes aren’t made for walking, but to be displayed on the counter along with other artsy sculptures.

Well, I don’t know what others may think but for me, I would t
hink ten times to put them on although you may say that they are awesome for fashion statement making. Now, if you think Omelle may sound rather foreign to you ears, that is because Omelle is one of the new and emerging shoe brands that is about to take the shoe world by storm.

In other words, big boys like Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik and Giuseppe Zanotti should take precaution because Omelle’s contemporary sculptural heels could simply bring a r
un off their money.

Founded by two friends Cherise Angelle, who has experience working in luxury product placement and Nicole Lafave (art director and self-employed designer), Omelle (pronounced as äh-melle) is best described as luxury footwear with personality.

Wholly crafted by the skilful hands of Italian craftsmen in Italy, Omelle shoes, be it sandals or booties, are what every fashion-savvy women desire. You know, those pairs of shoes that she would positioned in front of her shoe closet, waiting to be worn for the right moment or any momentous occasions with insouciance and aplomb.

Further evoking your passion and dreams to own them are the detailing and luxurious materials used in its making, coupled with the edgy and forward-thinking designs inspired from furniture designs, textiles, architectures and also graphic design.

For spring/summer 2009, get ready to embrace in the aesthetic spirit of fashion with Omelle’s gravity defying collection. Crafted out in a variety of luxe skins and hide, including exotic reptiles, each shoe is made to perfection with not a single artistic touch spared.

While most shoe designers prefer to stick to the gladiator or Masai neckpiece-inspired coil straps, Omelle begs to differ with meticulous yet technical approach.
For example, the Mary Janes (known as Brianna) is beautifully done with rounded toe box with D’orsay approach (notice the heel covering at the back) and edgy snap buckle.

I also love the heels, which is adorned with metal piece as well as the soles. Both are made of sanded woods. For Gossip Girls fans, especially Serena’s wannabes, you will be absolutely thrilled to know that Blake Lively’s character Serena van der Woodsen sports one of Omelle’s shoes called Cecilia (high-heeled ankle booties) in the series!

However, for those who are in pursuit of style edginess or should I say eccentrics, why don’t you go for Cole and Darby?

Although I would like to describe it as the modern-day version of Puss in Boots’ boots (because it is a spitting image of what Puss wore in the fairy tale), Cole is best described as boot meets sandal sort of incarnation with halter vamps and a small cut out on the heel, drenched in sensuous burnt cobble hue.

On the other hand, the cutting edge Darby is a meticulously techy sheen boots-meet-sandal with flat heels tinged in the classic storm hue.

Other must have pieces from Omelle to complete your spring/summer bounty also include strappy high heeled sandals with gilded arrow-styled pointed heels (called Actress), flat sandals in eel skin called Ari, the super aesthetic Artist sandals with arched cut out quarters and the sophisticated Cappy pumps.

To set your feet and heart on these marvellous works of art, visit Omelle’s online store and order as many as your feet’s content! You can also get them from Début New York.

Shopaholics EXCLUSIVE ... Jerome C Rousseau

0 fashionistas wrote ...
Ladies, do you remember the article on those dainty retro-styled shoes by Jerome C Rousseau that I posted several weeks ago?

Well people, exclusively to this blog and perhaps in the entire Asia and Malaysia, I managed to get the designer himself away from his hectic life as a celebrity shoemaker and talk to me (via email s'il vous plait!) about sho
emaking and the inspiration behind those lovely Dragon heels (this season's key shoe that every shoe lover should own!).

So darlings, what are you waiting, go on and check it out! By the way, Jerome C Rousseau's fall/winter 2008 collection is on sale now at Shuz KLCC.

How do you know that someday you would be a shoe designer?
It’s not something that I knew, but something that gradually happened. As a young teenager, I came across a band called Deee-Lite, and I was drawn to their spe
ctacular presentation. They were wearing some wild footwear and I started drawing these shoes in art classes.

Drawing shoes gradually became something I wanted to do all the time, and after researching the history of shoes it
evolved into a strong passion. I spent my high school years investigating how I could get the right skills to do it as a profession, and I chose to study at Cordwainers College in London, which turned out to be the start of a brilliant journey for me.

How often did you take your mother’s shoes and use them as muse for your shoe drawings back then?

Emm, I don’t remember doing that at all! The muse for my first sketches were shoes I’d find in vintage stores, or on history books, re
cord covers and videoclips. Music has always played a big part of my influences and it continues to do so. I find many parallels between music and design.

Is there a specific figure from the (shoemaking) industry that you looked up to as your mentor or driving force?

The shoes worn by the members of Deee-Lite were designed by John Fluevog, a Canadian designer. John was my first shoe design hero and his work at that time influenced me to choose this career. Back in the 90’s, I had the chance to work with John before moving to London, it was an inspiring experience. A shoe designer that has taught me a lot about creativity is Andre Perugia. I am very fond of the silhouettes he created, and how he channelled his creativity into wearable and stunning footwear.

When you first market your debut collection, what kind of response did you received from the shoe-mad crowd?

The response has been very strong. It is an incredible amount of work to launch a successful shoe collection and it’s easy to get carried away and not realise whether you are doing well or not. The first collection was picked up by great retailers, and is also selling
very well in stores. I receive daily emails from new fans of the collection! I think the shoe-mad crowd (as you call it) loved the silhouettes and colours of the debut collection, as well as the overall theme.

I see lots of retro elements in your latest fall/winter collection such as the colours and styles. Why?
For the Fall 08 collection, I was mostly inspired by two different things. The first is the work of Ukrainian artist Kazimir Malevich, particularly his usage of geometry and colours in the 1920’s. I also took reference to the film “The eyes of Laura Mars” from 1978, and its combination of late
70’s glamour and danger.

I guess with these influences, there are some retro elements that filtered th
rough to the collection. However, my intention was not to create a retro collection, but most definitely to take these influences and create something modern and distinctive.

Your ‘Dragon’ heels captured the most of my attention from the rest of the FW08 line. Why did you name it ‘Dragon’ and what is the story behind it?

For the Fall 08 collection, I named the shoes after stars and constellations. Dragon seemed a fitted name for this flamboyant pump. I think you can see the Malevich influence in t
his style, through the geometry of the lines and the colour blocking.

Besides designing shoes, have you ever thought of including maybe an accessory line to complement that heavenly footwear line of yours?

Thank you for your lovely compliment! Eventually it is something I will consider, but the label is still very young and I prefer to focus on one thing at the moment. I would also love to do a collection of mens shoes at some point.

You are based in Los Angeles, so brushing shoulders with celebrities should be part of your work routine. So far, who have proclaimed their allegiance as a devo
ted fan of your shoes?

It’s definitely not a part of my work routine, but there are plenty of celebrities around. I have just received the first season’s shoes and will be sending them to my favourite celebrities shortly, so it’s too early to kiss and tell!

And talking about celebrities, of late there has been a sort of influx on celebrity shoe labels. Do you think this is good for premium designer footwear industry or vice versa and why?

I don’t take much notice, to be honest. I am not be interested in buying from celebrity labels – I have too much appreciation and understanding of the craft that goes behind strong designers. In terms of the luxury customers, they are clearly responding to niche shoe designers. They recognize the skills in the design and the craftsmanship process. The customers are very educated at this price point, and I don’t think are easily fooled by a celebrity name on a shoe. It’s a different customer in my opinion.

Last but not least, what are you up to in the future? Will there be a flagship Jerome C Rousseau store in the heart of Rodeo Drive soon?

My priority is to continue to present exciting and innovative collections every new season. I’m all about the design! I’d love to collaborate with my favourite artists and designers, and evolve the collection with different product categories. The flagship Jerome C Rousseau store is most definitely some years away, and I’d rather have it in London or Paris than Rodeo Drive! Or Kuala Lumpur?!

The Eye Candy For The Feet ... Jerome C Rousseau

1 fashionistas wrote ...
At a glance, Jerome Rousseau may just be another boy next door. Or if you had too much champagne, you might as well mistake him for a new Hollywood actor (bless his charming look!).

No matter what your thoughts of him might be, there’s only one thing that shoe-mad ladies can’t get enough of this cute young Quebecoise – he designs superb shoes. Here’s a little on the man himself. Graduated from the absolutely famous Cordwainers College, he started sketching and designing shoes since he was young.

Taking European designs, modern art, and Pop Art and his muses, Rousseau’s collection is filled with flair and has this nonchalant posh appeal. Furthermore, having a keen pair of eyes on details as well as a unique design aesthetic have helped his shoes in garnering strong devotion and admiration from shoe fans the world over.

For the fall/winter collection, Rousseau has created a lineup of shoes bearing timeless nuances such as the flats, sexy heels and sandals. These must have pieces are all doused in beautiful hues harking back to the vibrant 70’s and 80’s, with solid gold predominates the working palette.

Besides patent
leather, Rousseau also integrated a touch of exotic luxury into his creations; such as rich suede peep toed booties with luxurious crocodile heels in brown.

But if you’re looking for something groovy that is likely to reminisce your partying days at Studio 54 or Regine, then this Mondrian-esque multi-hued pump with golden patent toe box and piping should fit your ideal ‘party shoes’ description well.

Now here’s the best part. There’s no need for you to fly halfway around the globe just to secure a pair or two of Rousseau’s impeccably designed shoes.

The good news is Jerome Rousseau’s fall/winter 2008 collection is available now at your favourite multi-brand shoe temple, Shuz!

So what are you waiting for girls, better put on those sneakers and start sprinting to Shuz to grab them all before they disappear from the shelves!

Shopaholics EXCLUSIVE ... A Moment with Catherine Deane

0 fashionistas wrote ...
In Malaysia, the name Catherine Deane may still sound foreign to most of our fashionistas. But across the globe, Catherine Deane is a sought after ready-to-wear label with strong emphasizes on luxury and true femininity.

Formerly known as Arcangel by Catherine Deane, the label is famously known for its timeless designs developed from antique craft research and her rich aristocratic family’s history. So desirable and seductive the gossamer gowns and sophisticated dresses are, they are often seen on the svelte figures of renowned celebrities and notable fashion icons like Terri Hatcher in Desperate Housewives, Paris Hilton and also Danni Minogue to name a few.

Exclusive to Shopaholics Anonymous Malaysia, Catherine shares with us her the idea of a perfect of Catherine Deane woman, her future vision for the brand, and what her fans can expect from the upcoming Autumn/Winter line.

When did you realize that fashion design is your true vocation? Did you find it or vice versa?

I started making my own clothes as a teenager – mostly because I couldn’t afford the things I really wanted or couldn’t find them...so I guess I had it figured out when I was quite young and this naturally led into my career in fashion

What sort of personality does the ideal Catherine Deane woman embodies?

She is multi dimensional – she can be both hard and soft, strong and fragile; feminine but assertive – she lives her life with her eyes wide open, aware of the world around her and looks for beauty and inspiration in everything...she appreciates her blessings and passes her happiness onto others.

Your autumn/winter 2008 collection seemed purely magical with volumes and intricate details. Care to share with us the beautiful tale behind this remarkable collection?

The collection was inspired by the contrasts of light and dark – in both mood and colours - and this was expressed through volumes, drapes, tailoring embroidery and colours – we all embody these things and have different aspects of our personalities which are revealed at different times – I got to express this through the collection - There are always strong historical and fantasy influences in the clothing which give a timeless, classic and romantic feel.

Of all the breathtaking pieces you have created, are there any specific pieces from this collection that you consider as your favourites?

There are always favourites each season; I would have to say this season it is the Eldora dress and the Ellie dress – in fact both where inspired from the same panelled bodice work but executed in completely different ways – the one is lay
ers of gossamer soft silk tulle in gathers and the other in structured Italian wool – I guess again this is about the contrasts – as woman we can feel soft and feminine one day and powerful and assertive the next - clothing can help us express our moods and emotions ....

Another factor that caught my attention is the way you publicize the collection. Instead of heralding the collection via conventional press releases, you did it innovatively with poetry. Why?

I feel so lucky to have a career where I can express myself creatively – through the clothing, shapes, volumes, silhouettes, I do the draping and pattern cutting of all of the pieces, so I work very closely on each dress – this way the development Is more fluid and expansive. Poetry is just another form of creative expression, but through words, and I feel it can be even more powerful then a few lines on why the collection came to be – it sums up a mood, it ignites a vision in the readers mind – and I’m indulging myself.

Now lets move to something tricky. Since the olden days, designers tend to give freebies to celebrities for the sake of increasing sales. With fashion retailing is facing quite a tough time at this moment, do you think such practice is still relevant to the fashion industry?

I think celebrity endorsement will always be apart of the fashion industry – putting beautiful clothes on the backs of beautiful and famous people – it certainly gets peoples attention. So many of the big brands are using actresses over models in their campaigns as it gives the brand personality – and in today’s society it works – people are easily influenced and are looking for role models, so I do think it is still relevant.

So, if you were given a chance to dress one favourite celebrity of yours to the Oscars or BAFTA, who would you choose and why?

Keira Knightley, – she is naturally beautiful, talented and sophisticated.

Last but not least, what can your fans expect from Catherine Deane in the near future? Would there be a signature fragrance or a shoes and accessories line to complement the label’s splendid looks?

Our focus the past couple of years since we started the business has been to get the luxury occasion wear core of our brand well established – now we are looking at product line extensions – handbags for AW09.

Catherine Deane's Autumn/Winter 2008 collection will be available soon at world's best boutiques around the globe. In Malaysia, Catherine Deane label is carried by Aseana KLCC.

Alldressedup Fall/Winter 2008-09

If there is a suitable record for me to pick and play to match Alldressedup’s upcoming fall/winter 2008 collection, then it will be “Modern Minds and Pastimes” by Boston-based modern rock band, The Click Five.

Blending old shapes and silhouettes with modern incandescent palette, Alldressedup fall/winter 2008 truly lived to the Click Five’s album title – modern minds mixed with the past.

Touted as an “imaginative and inventive” collection, the line’s inspiration was drawn from eastern nautical influences dated back to the days of yore and thrilling tones of the deep sea. Since imaginative is the name of the game, expect to an array of unusual materials such as washed silk, organdy, ribbed jersey, cashmere silk blend knit and the luxurious crepe de chine in silk.

Soft and relaxed, the collection boasts liquid shapes and silhouettes that do not attached to the body, thus promoting comfort and a sense of ultimate femininity. Be it a long tank dress in runny jersey over layered with matching long-sleeved top or flowing celadon short-sleeved top with frilled puffed petrol blue shoulders, no exact time or moment needed for you to indulge in this alluring collection.

Enhancing the ready-to-wear collection’s beauty are interes
ting detailing elements such as the knotted or looped nautical cords that lends an authentic cruise vibe to the collection in the form of drawstring detail on collars, hemlines and pouch; cool translucent zippers with contrasting stitching, as well as the unique yet flexible aluminum wiring on sleeves and necklines.

Of course, completing your Alldressedup girl’s look is the delectable lineup of accessories and bags.

Aquatic creatures such as jellyfish and corals, as well as nautical knots are immortalized in the forms of elasticized cords and latex-cast chains, while necklaces and charms are made from grosgrain ribbons and leather shoestrings, either hand-braided or knotted.

And never leave your home without the irresistible bags too. If you are into texture and design innovation, then look no further for its clutch bag collection. What’s so special about Alldressedup’s clutch bag collection is they are made from textured Koi (or Japanese carp) fish skin and adorned with innovative latex-cast buckles and rivets. Fashionably awesome!

Jaspal Opens in KL

7 fashionistas wrote ...
For frequent Bangkok shoppers, a shopping trip to the city won’t be complete without stopping into Jaspal for some fashion fix.

Offering you the latest trends and styles without literally breaking your bank, the brand, which was conceived more than 30 years ago, has become Thailand’s answer to top international mid-range fashion brands such as Gap, Guess?, and Topshop.

Now, thirty years later after making its presence clear in every nooks and crannies of the Land of the White Elephants, Jaspal has finally made its move towards international expansion by choosing Malaysia for its first outlet outside Thailand.

Located the at the Pavilion, the new outlet sparked profound
interest and a fashionable relief for its Malaysian fans who have been faithfully visiting the brand’s expansive list of stores while in Thailand.

Sporting contemporary interior with modern steel-and-glass fit outs, the Jaspal concept store is the first to be set up outside Thailand and carries complete range of clothes, accessories, shoes, as well as intimate wears for both men and women. Ever since its inception early this year, the response towards the brand by Malaysian fashionistas, as well as visiting tourists was tremendous.

If you wonder why Malaysia has been chosen as Jaspal’s launch pad towards international expansion, the reason is simple – Malaysians made part of their shoppers bulk back in Thailand and they are confident that Jaspal products will be well-received among Malaysian stylish fashionistas since they are now closer to their clients. Besides that, Jaspal clothes and accessories reflect the global fashion trends.

“Societies around the world are so much more connected these days that these trends in particular will appeal to most people,” says Jaspal Company Limited Assistant Managing Director Mr. Viseth Singhsachatet.

“However, we do localize our fashion items to suit certain aspects of Asian lifestyle and culture," he adds. "For example, size of the body, the weath
er, colour preference and usage, and others. We take into consideration these elements when we design."

With seven designers hired by the brand, fashion-forward consumers can look forward on an eclectic collection of clothes and accessories inspired by all sorts of things in this world, be it music, movies, parties, or whatever they could pick from trade shows and exhibitions. According to Viseth, two more stores within Klang Valley are in the pipeline and is schedule to open by the end of this year.

Now what can we expect from Jaspal this sizzling season? Revolving around five inspirations, which are the art forms, safari, the 1950's, 1970's, and the graphic 1980's, the womenswear collection for spring/summer 2008 is imbued monochromatic colours, vivid yet classic patterns such as polka dots, florals, and geometrical shapes, as well as the use of bleached denim, cotton, and chiffon in the collection.

For example, the Safari collection is a fun-filled mix and match collection featuring pieces such as the classic safari jackets, sleeveless dress, and mini dress with brown prints. On the other hand, the the 1970's collection feature paisley prints in bright and tempestuous hues on classic printed jumpsuits, cotton shirtdress, and mini-dresses.

For menswear, the
idea is a mix of good rock n' roll days, sports, and a classic formal touch. Colours within the collection are subtle with black, white, grey and earthy shades of browns, plus some stripes combined as the collection's working palette, while cotton and bleached denim are the fabrics vastly used for the spring/summer 2008 lineup.

If you are into minimalism, opt for Jaspal's formal collection that boasts classic influences from the 90's. Shape fitting suits with slender collars and suits with razor sharp cuts are waiting to make their way into your men's wardrobe. For the sporty ones, easy-to-wear and funky tees, as well as hooded jackets and sleeveless tops should be part of your summer wardrobe staple this month.

Of course, what's the meaning of dressing up to the nines without completing it with accessories? Yes, a bevy of accessories are waiting with soft, oversized bags for ladies and funky high top sneakers with gold and patch embroidery for him among the highlights.

Jaspal spring/summer 2008 for men and women are available now at Jaspal Concept Store, Pavilion KL.

You have seen them on the lovely wrists of Hollywood trendsetters. Even Cameron Diaz was snapped by the paps sporting one on in gold while kissing the new man of her life.

So you still didn't get it, do you? Well ladies and girls, brace yourself for the new fad in town - the Vita bangles.

A stylish brainchild of Los Angeles-based jewelry designer Cynthia Sakai, Vita bangles have made not just the Hollywood style arbiters but also stylish girls around the world gaga. Charmingly contemporary and full of elegance, these Vita bangles are luxuries that one can always afford.

Why do I say it as a luxury? First, these exceptional bangles aren't just your typical designer bangles or bracelets. Instead, they are designer items created with full passion and interest.

Second, these intricate pieces of art are fully made in Florence, Italy - the center of Ita
lian leather craft. Don't be surprised if I say that they are handcrafted by the same artisans who have crafted those sought after high end leather goods pieces by Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Gucci just to name a few.

Made from a bevy of posh and exotic materials such as snake skin, leather, and even solid precious metals such as gold, to date, Vita accessories are carried by more than 20 stores around the world as well as within the cyberspace.

Besides enjoying high publicity through the wrists of highly celebrated celebrities and trendsetters of Hollywood such as Desperate Housewives and Over Her Dead Body actress Eva Longoria, who sported a stack of them at an event recently, Vita accessories too enjoyed high exposure from the global media.

Glossy fashion bibles such as inStyle, Glamour, Vogue, and Harper's Bazaar in a variety of international editions are known to feature not just one but most of the must-have pieces on their hallowed 'must have' accessories pages. Not to mention on renowned online fashion digest too such as Kuwaiti's Dia Diwan.

Thinking on how to spice up your wardrobe this summer? All you have to do is just add a stack of Vita's snakeskin bangles in a plethora of vivid summer colors and you're ready to rock the town. Isn't that simple, girls?

At the moment, the closest retailer to Malaysia that carries these lovely 'it' bangles are Quintessential and Bag Aficionados in Singapore but soon, you don't have to travel south anymore because Vita accessories will be available to the fashion hunger masses of Malaysia at the chic Lush Icon boutique, located in Avenue K.

So girls, start saving up now and invest in these intricate pieces of luxury from Vita by Cynthia Sakai for this summer. Vita's spring/summer 2008 bangles and other accessories will be available exclusively to Lush Icon this July.

Mouawad To Open in KL

Jewelry aficionados rejoice! Jeweler to the kings and celebrities, Mouawad, will be taking Kuala Lumpur by storm with the opening of its new store.

Located at the swanky Starhill Gallery, the heart and soul of luxury shopping in the heart of Jalan Bukit Bintang, the Mouawad boutique is (probably) the first freestanding boutique set up by the brand in South East Asia region and will carry a variety of finely crafted jeweleries ranging from the exclusive haute couture collection to its much sought after masterpieces.

A family-run brand that is steep in history, Mouawad was founded by Dav
id Mouawad in 1860s. A native of Lebanon, he left his country and traveled throughout the United States and Mexico to learn the art of goldsmith, jewelery-making, and watchmaking.

While repairing watches and jewelery, David began to develop and refine his skills by creating intricate and exquisite church clocks and jewelery pieces commissioned by his wealthy clients.

The newly founded skills and the designing philosophy that he founded were then handed down through four generations.

Later, through his son Fayez, Mouawad started its jewelery business in Saudi Arabia and became the first foreign jeweler to be awarded with "royal jeweler" decree by the Saudi Arabian royal family.

Decades later, Mouawad began to expand its wings by tapping into new markets namely Europe, North America, Middle East, and Asia.

Today, under the helm of CEO and Chairman Robert Mouawad and his four sons - Fred, Alain, and Pascal, Mouawad continues to charm the world with its original and distinctive jewelery pieces worn not only by the rich and famous jetsetters but also by high-profile celebrities such as Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, and Gwen Stefani just to name a few, at prestigious red carpet events.

In 2006, two celebrities were roped in by Mouawad to create fine jewel collections and they were supermodel cum Victoria's Secret Angel Heidi Klum and A-list celebrity stylist Andrea Lieberman.

While Klum came up with only one line, which was inspired by clover shaped marble inlay of the historical Duomo in Milan, Lieberman, on the other hand, came up with two collections - Lady Spike and Tribal.

Adding an extra bling to their glittering business portfolio is the limited edition Fantasy Bra line, created via special collaboration with sexy lingerie purveyor Victoria's Secret.

Modeled by top Victoria Secret's Angels namely Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, and Gisele Bundchen, the bras sport a hefty price tag of US$11 000 000.00 and comes with a matching fully bejeweled underwear.

The freestanding Mouawad boutique is located at Indulge Floor, Starhill Gallery and is scheduled for opening this Spring.
