Karen Millen Opens in Kuala Lumpur

After making a succesful yet strong presence in the neighbouring Singapore, UK ladies fashion retailer Karen Millen opened its second store in South East Asia at the upscale Suria KLCC shopping mall, Kuala Lumpur.

The boutique features modern interior features and has attracted many local shoppers, especially those who have been familiar with the brand either during shopping trips to the UK or its Singaporean flagship store at Wisma Atria in Singapore.

The boutique was opened last November and carries an assortment of ready-to-wear lines, accessories and shoes. Karen Millen is known for its brilliant collections designed around the a fashion attitude rather than focusing on a specific age or style. The brand had its humble beginning in 1981 when she founded the company with partner Kevin Stanford, an engineering degree holder who later decided to foray into the fashion industry.

With GBP 100.00 as their initial investment and a 100 yards of white cotton, they turned it into shirts and sell them to friends. Soon, a "party network' was planned to retail a small collection and two years later, the plan worked and they had sufficient income to finance their first store in Maidstone, Kent.

In 1989, Karen Millen and her partner opened their first London store at the King's Road amd soon added more stores at Bromley, Great Marlborough Street and Kensington High Street between 1990 and 1992.

In 2004, the company was acquired by Mosaics Fashion Limited and by now, the brand operates more than 110 stores in several countries including Malaysia.

In Singapore and Malaysia, Karen Millen stores are operated by Wing Tai Asia Limited under its subsidiary Wing Tai Clothing. So whenever you're at Suria KLCC for shopping, don't forget to drop by Karen Millen store for a sneak peek on its latest collection.
