The Dior Drama Continues

Theatrical is the name of the game and as season passes by, John Galliano continues to play with the dramatic effects in his upcoming collection for French fashion house Christian Dior.

The British designer and alma mater to the famous St. Martins Central revived the 40's in his Fall/Winter 2007-08 Prêt-á-Porter (ready-to-wear) collection, which was unveiled to the press and buyers last Tuesday in Paris.

Surprisingly, for the next Fall/Winter lineup, expect no pants within the collection. Only skirts, gowns and jackets with feminine shapes and silhouettes are on the lineup. A mix of dark and light colors that represents warmth such as banana green, mauve, royal blue, metallic ocher, black and navy blue to name a few are chosen as the working color palette by Galliano.

Jackets and tops with long sleeves are given a luxurious touch of thick and fluffy fur trimming. Fur trims are also applied as detail on the necklines of mauve coat as well as a python skin suit ensemble in pale violet.

Luxe yet comfortable fabrics of tafetta, satin, chiffon and textured velvet are used in the making of the entire Fall/Winter 2007-08 collection while techniques such as drapping, knotting and multi-layering are applied to create the theatrical and dramatic effect on the clothes.

If you had a penchant on one of Galliano's Spring multi-tiered layers couture gown that would set you back a Proton Waja Sedan or maybe a Kia Carnival, then fret not because the quirky designer also includes the gown in silk satin mauve as a part of the collection but with less volume and much proportionate that will cost (maybe) half of the costs of the cars mentioned above.

For accessories, python and crocodile skin bags in banana green and dark plum or mauve, leather lock bag with lace leather details and woven leather bags in deep purple, woven platform heels with laces and multi-strapped sandals with block heels are what you can look forward to spice up your multi-million Dior diva look. The Fall/Winter 2007-08 ready-to-wear collection is expected to be in stores by late August to early October.

While waiting for trees to shed their flame-hued leaves to the ground, the new Spring/Summer 2007 collection is available now at all Dior stores and select department stores that carries the label.
