Pucci F/W 07-08 ... That Don't Impress Me Much!

When Matthew Williamson presented his debut collection for Italian "Prince of Prints" fashion house Pucci, he succesfully revived the heart and soul of the brand by applying the signature prints that soared the brand to stardom within the fashion world. Lively colors, generous cutouts on the swimsuits and the elongated caftans got the fashion devotees swoon to their feet.

But at the recent Fall/Winter 2007-08 ready-to-wear collection, it didn't impress me much. Well, though it's not to bad overall but the colors seems dim and dull.

Maybe you can associate fall with lackluster colors as it's the season when trees shed their leaves on the ground but you can at least add some fun by injecting fun and warm colors to give more warmth to the collection and the wearer as well.

First, lets touch about my favorite pieces. Like a trademark for Pucci, caftan make its encore appearance this season and it's printed with one of the trademark prints.

Printed jersey belted dress in earthy tone, fur coat in dark green worn with neon-green printed bodysuit, knitted burgundy poncho and matching knitted beanie, and wide neckline dress in psychedelic print with knee-length hem are just a few that I think may sell to the crowd.

Though I personally don't like that mopey poncho because it reminds me of the home mop, the uniqueness and the burgundy color attracts the eye. Other stuff like single and double-breasted jacket in Popsicle orange worn with leggings in orange and purple fared just fine.

Now, lets move to the unlikeable thing. I just can't stand the furry oversized coat. Thank god it's orange or ocher because should Williamson did it in white, well, the ladies might end up looking like a Yeti on a shopping excursion in the middle of Via Montenapoleone or Bond Street!

Though I hate the coat does not mean that the entire collection doesn't get my approval nod. Besides, I'm not Anna Wintour mind you so I've no right to say NO to the genius Matthew anyways. Overall, the collection is quite nice and saleable so he deserves a one thumb up from me.

The Fall/Winter 2007-08 Ready-to-Wear Collection will be available in Pucci stores and multi-label boutiques worldwide starting this August.
