Flight of Birds ... Khoon Hooi A/W 08-09

In the previous season, Khoon Hooi created waves in Malaysian fashion scene with his wave-inspired spring/summer 2008 collection.

This fall/winter, there would be no more waves and ripples adorning the forthcoming ready-to-wear collection.

Instead, the new collection inspiration would be one of God’s favourite flying creatures of all time. They are neither bright celesti
al angels nor the Gothic Satan-loved bats. But they are birds.

Beautiful and colourful, birds are purely enchanting creatures ever
made by God. Either swiftly gliding on the blue skies or simply perching on trees singing sweet renditions, their beauty is veritably incomparable. Honestly, nothing in this world could easily match the loveliness and splendour of birds.

Living up to its inspiration, the collection incorporates exciting hues based on the birds’ plumage such as flamingo pink, down to eagle’s bronze and golden tones.

Sporting feminine sil
houettes and graceful flows, the autumn/winter collection by Khoon Hooi is simply irresistible and yet truly inspiring as well.

For starters, the capped-sleeve
flamingo pink dress with above knee hems and round neck looks ultimately outstanding and simple.

Soft pleats on the skirt and cinched waist strengthen and assert the wearer’s wo
manliness and grace. Apart from that, the texture too provides this dress a great fashion appeal and individuality.

Another eye-catching piece that is set to capture any fashionistas attention is the sheer blouson with long sculpted and cuffed sleeves and big bow detail at the front. A reminiscent of Studio 54 heydays and a perfect party outfit, the blouson oozes unlimited glamour thanks to the swathe of gold hue all over it.

If trends use to appear for a short period and stays dormant for ages until some Armani or Chanel wake them up from their long-term hibernation, the scene has changed today.

Like an ongoing trend, Khoon Hooi retains the sensual Grecian elements like knots and smooth folds in his new collection.

Another Studio 54-esqu
e or Dynasty-esque pieces from the new autumn/winter collection that should be in every self-confessed fashion fans’ closet are superb shimmering black dresses.

Whether it’s a shift dress drenched in black sequin with asymmetrical pleats on skirt or glitter-swathed black dress with crinkled v-neck and frontal knot, you got to have them both.

Say if you want to channel the style and je ne sais quoi of classic French children’s book icon Madeline or simply reminiscent your days back in school, you certainly can’t miss this as a part of your day wardrobe – brocade pinafore.

Worn over a long-sleeve funnel neck top in beige, the pinafore sports one of Khoon Hooi’s design trademark on waist – rippled zippers.

Khoon Hooi’s Autumn/Winter 2008-09 collection will be available at Khoon Hooi boutique as well as selected retailers around the world this fall.
