Immersing in Heraldry Chic ... Stella McCartney FW08

It was quite awkward to see Kanye West and Anna Wintour without dead animals hanging on their bodies. But it was Stella McCartney show anyway, so better be seen in none rather than be banned forever.

Paying homage to the timeless English coat of arms and heraldic art, the fall/winter collection boasts a plethora of heraldic prints with as usual, some touches of Stella’s trademark tailoring.

The traditional sombre colours chosen by Stella for her working palette may ubiquitously mirrored the greyish skies of London or the British Isles, but there are also fun and cheery colours that will melt the autumnal chill away.

At the start, Stella introduced her collection of felt outerwears with prints inspired by coat of arms. A classic fashion reminder that harked back to the Renaissance days, the coats were given some modern innovative treatments like a kimono silhouette matched with a patent wide belt.

Besides coats, printed felt too was also turned into an off-shoulder mini dress with long sleeves and folded neckline, predicted to be one of the season’s bestsellers.

If prints seemed to be not your cup of tea, Stella also created a series of outerwear and ensembles in plain black. Utilizing strai
ght nuances on some of the pieces, the series boast less or none detailing except for a couple of buttons on double-breasted long coat.

Believe it or not, the British rock & roll royalty designer too incorporated fine merino wool, which is so totally un-vegetarian, as lapel and sleeve trimmings on one of her long winter coats!

But here’s the best part. Though fall and winter in the northern hemisphere may be bitterly cold and sometimes harsh, that did not deter her from venturing with gossamer fabrics that are more suitable for her clients in the warmer climate zone.

Smartly paired with classic shapes, Stella wondrously ‘gave birth’ to some of the must-have pieces such as chiffon long gown, printed bubble dresses, and mini lace dress with Qi Pao-inspired halter neck.

To complete your ‘medieval’ Stella style, spice it up with wool-trimmed knee boots, timeless pumps with square toe boxes, and patent ankle boots.

Stella McCartney fall/winter collection is available now at selected multi-brand retailers and Stella McCartney stores worldwide.
