Charmingly Chaumet

Chaumet, France's famous royal jeweller after Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels has finally opened its door in Kuala Lumpur. Located at the swanky Starhill Gallery, the boutique is said to be the first be opened in South East Asia and managed by its partner, the fine watch and jewellery purveyor, Swiss Union Fine Watch. Chaumet, a historic brand with linkage to the French emperor Napoleon who appointed its founder Marie-Etienne Nitot as the official royal jeweller has 46 boutiques around the world with 22 of it are located in Japan alone.

According to Chaumet's president Thierry Fritsch, Malaysia has a big potential compared to its neighboring countries because of its stable economy and government. Another reason why Chaumet chose Malaysia to set up its first boutique in the region is because of the demands for tiaras, which are worn by the Malaysian royalties on official functions.

“We can create or realise any tiara you want,” says Patrick Morrachini, Chaumet's High Jewellery manager. “We pick the stones, then we make the design and we have to work with the workshop in Paris. It has to be perfect.”

A tiara could take up to six months to be completed as they are handmade. Apart from its high-profile yet renowned tiaras that have graced the heads of Queen Rania of Jordan and European royalties, Chaumet also offers exquisite ready-to-wear jewellery pieces, watches and accessories for men.
