The British Touch of Burberry

Double-breasted jackets, shiny metallic frocks, early 60's silhouettes and spiky chrome studs are the combination of fashion elements at Burberry Prorsum's latest Spring/Summer 2007 Raedy-to-Wear line this season. Christopher Bailey, the creative director of this 150 years old fashion house uses the formula of finding a piece of British iconography to match the mood of the season and applies it to the fundamentals of the Burberry heritage.

Injecting a new treatment to the house's signature trench coat, Bailey adds more volume and works with the subtle color palette of palest beige to silver metallics. He then inserted it into laces and high-tech brocades that were made from lightweight aluminum and silk, a revolution in the fashion industry. At the runway show held last year in Milan, spectators made up of buyers, media representatives and selected customers of the house were treated to an array of trenches, dresses, separates and wide range of accessories that are predicted to be snapped by devoted Burberry fans and IT girls around the world.

The uniqueness of Bailey's creation for Burberry Prorsum lies in the usage of silvery metal studs on men sweaters, women's trench coats and also shirtdress as the finishing details. The introduction of studs into Burberry clothing and accessories had begun since last year. Apart from bold metallic colors that are making their mainstay appearance on every designer's working color palette, floral prints too did not miss a spot in the season's collection.

Another detail that you should look for is the use of ostrich feather, which is lightweight and has more dramatic effect compared to normal bird feathers. For men, crisp white tailored suits, transparent V-neck sweater worn over silver shirt, and knit jumper are the key pieces of a classical Burberry man look. On the offering too at the moment is the Burberry Sartorial Collection. Quilted slingback shoes in black with buckle detail, patent leather booties, silver platform heels, quilted Manor bags in several tones and finishes, Nova check heels, and quilted wallets to name a few are the must buy items from the Sartorial collection.

For Spring/Summer campaign, models Kate Moss and Stella Tenant again fronted the ads for the consecutive year. Good news for Burberry fans in Japan. The company, in collaboration with its Japanese partner has announced that the third flagship store for the the land of the rising sun will be opened on August 2007 at Shin Tokyo Building in the district of Maronouchi. The store will encompass 840 square meters or 8700 square feet of retail floorspace over one floor and will carries Burberry Prorsum and Burberry London lines for men and women, as well as accessories plus Burberry Timepieces, Eyewear, Fragrances and selected local-licensed products.

The Burberry Prorsum and Burberry London Spring/Summer 2007 Collection is available now at all Burberry stores and select departmental stores around the world.
